Condolences
So sorry for your loss. He was a special person who brought joy and laughter to lots of people around him.
Bert was an amazing man. I loved the times we got to spend together at Disney, the Fair, Jeff Gordon's compound, the Aviation museum and multiple family dinners. Whenever I visited, he would always take me and show me the newest addition to his baseball card collection or NASCAR models. He was such a good guy. Always smiling mischievously. He taught me how to warm cold packets of butter under your arm at a buffet so it was easier to spread.(Something I always do whenever at a buffet now.) He always gave good hugs. When I had vertigo and couldn't drive, Bert volunteered right away to drive me to appointments. After my dad passed away, Bert was my "adopted dad." I am happy to have had him in my life. I loved him and will miss him tremendously.
During my career in the Greece Police Department, I developed friendships with several Officers & Firefighters in the Ridge Road Fire District, not the least of whom was Bert Ottman. Many nights when I was on-duty I would stop at the Stoneridge Firehouse and visit him while he was stationed there alone. We had some great conversations!!
I was so very sorry to learn of his passing. My sincere sympathy to his wife & family.
Sgt. Steve Smith (Retired).
Our deepest sympathy to the entire Ottman family from my family.
He was a great friend. Many memories were made playing softball, golfing, and fighting fires together.
