Obituary of Sarah E. Buskey

Hilton - Sarah E. Buskey passed away on May 30, 2021, at the age of 80.  She was predeceased by her husbands, Donald Wolff and Richard Buskey.  She is survived by her children, Patrick (Patricia) Buskey, David Buskey, Patience (Richard) Anderson, Andrea (John) Yunger, and adopted son, Kevin (Loriann) Martel; her 10 grandchildren, Jose, Catherine, David "DJ", Stephanie, Jennifer, Kaitlin, John IV, Cameron, Cole and Alric; her sisters, Patricia Crooks, Jacqueline Backer, Sylvia Rodriguez, and Susan Morrie; and many nieces and nephews.  She was also predeceased by her brother, William Stephenson and her sisters, Mildred Reed and Alberta Donahue.

Sarah spent a lifetime of caring for others during her long nursing career, starting out with general and some pediatric nursing. She later turned to nursing home care, in-home care for the disabled, and ended her career as a hospice nurse. It was only fitting that she passed under the care of some very nice hospice nurses at Hildebrandt Hospice. She would have been happy with the attentive care they gave her.

Sarah loved nature, gardens and animals. Throughout her life she allowed her kids to have all kinds of different creatures including cats, a dog, fish, spiders, salamanders, crabs, gerbils, hamsters, mice and guinea pigs. She particularly loved her cats and her spoiled birds. Oh, she loved those two cockatiels.

Throughout her life Sarah loved to sew, knit and crochet. These are all things that became more difficult as arthritis affected her hands more and more, but she never stopped trying to sew, knit or crochet something. And when she really just couldn’t, she was more than happy to teach or help someone else.  

Sarah’s love for kids showed throughout her life. She talked about being a foster parent, hosting fresh-air kids from NYC and later her grandkids that she loved dearly. She just loved spending time with and talking about her grandkids. 

Family and friends are invited to call, following CDC guidelines, Friday, June 11, 2021, from 4-7 pm at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, 735 East Avenue, Hilton.  Sarah's Funeral Service will be Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 10 am, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hilton.  Interment in Grove Place Cemetery, Chili.  

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church and School, 158 East Ave., Hilton, NY 14468, for the new "Sarah Buskey Playground Memorial", in Sarah's memory.
