Obituary of Carl W. Holzschuh

North Chili: January 15, 2016. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Marilyn. Survived by his loving son, Tom (Susan) Holzschuh; daughter, Karen (Stephen) Essig; grandsons, Steve Essig, Eric Holzschuh and Brian Holzschuh; sister, Lorraine Destross; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Carl was born in Rochester, NY on November 17, 1924. He was a WWII Navy veteran who served in Australia and the Philippines. He met and married Marilyn in 1951, and retired from Eastman Kodak Company as a machinist in 1983. Carl enjoyed retirement, first having a cabin near Keuka Lake and then moving to Beverly Hills, FL for several years to escape the Rochester winters. They moved back to Hilton, NY to be near friends and family. Carl enjoyed his family, particularly being a grandparent. He loved woodworking and made many treasured gifts. Until the onset of Alzheimer’s disease, Carl enjoyed his dog, Max, and taking care of his house and yard. He always loved music and had a huge collection that he brought with him to Cottage Grove. Carl’s family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Cottage Grove Memory Care, especially Cyrell Moten, Diane Russell-Jones, Nicole Carter, Gina Hill, Sandy Alford, Nancy Dann and Cathy Casey, for their loving care. Interment St. John the Evangelist Cemetery in Spencerport. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cottage Grove Memory Care, c/o Rochester Presbyterian Home, 256 Thurston Rd., Rochester, NY 14619 in Carl’s memory.
