David Clegg Sr.:

Grandpa's Life Story

David Clegg Sr., born November 12, 1942, was raised on Dalston Road in the town of Greece. He told stories of many fond memories of his childhood friendships and experiences while attending Barnard & Britton Road School. At the age of 12, he learned how to manage his own money, accumulate wealth, and pay his own bills by becoming a Rochester Times Union newspaper boy. After graduation from Britton Road Junior High, he along with his mother, father and brother Allan moved from Dalston Road to the "Wilds" of West Greece. At the time, Greece was a rural town of many cornfields, apple orchards, and many new housing developments. In 1956 when Dave was ready to attend high school, the town of Greece had no high schools. So Dave had to attend John Marshall High School in the city of Rochester. He graduated from John Marshall in 1960, and life then took on a rapid pace. He secured a job with Eastman Kodak in 1961. The following year, he married his high school sweetheart Marcia Fowler. With hard work by Dave and Marcia, they purchased a new Caldwell & Cook ranch house. They lived in their ranch home for 14 years. During those 14 years, their son David T. Clegg Jr. was born on September 26, 1965. Their daughter Kristen Ann was born September 29, 1969. They all moved to a larger 4 bedroom home, and put in a back yard swimming pool. They had many picnics, birthday parties, and good times during the 1980's. Dave advanced his career at Kodak from Group Leader to Foreman to Assistant Department Head.

In 1991, Dave and Marcia purchased a lake front home on Edgemere Drive, where Marcia still resides. Also in 1991, Dave took early retirement from Kodak, which meant Dave enjoyed 33 long years of retirement. He was able to travel to 46 states, the British Isles, took 11 cruises to Canada, Mexico, Central America, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and many other islands in the Caribbean. Dave also played numerous rounds of golf over the years with his friends and his grandson. He also enjoyed 25 years of riding motorcycles, as well as the last 23 years enjoying his green, pristine 2001 British Racing Mazda Miata sports car. Dave also became an avid reader of various topics and loved his reading experiences. He and his wife Marcia helped raise his one and only grandson, Joshua Vazquez. He spent hours and hours with his grandson - taking him to numerous Bills games and golfing hundreds of rounds of golf with Josh. Dave felt that his granddaughter, Zoie Ann Clegg, was the only person who would spend hours upon hours listening to her grandfather's stories. Dave is also the very proud great-grandfather to future NFL safety, Gianni Vito Vazquez. Summing up his life, Dave felt well satisfied that he had been given over 80 years of life, 62 years as a husband, many years of innumerable good friendships. Dave was predeceased by his son, David T. Clegg Jr. on December 12, 2021, from covid, and infant daughter, Julie Ann Clegg.

Dave is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marcia Clegg; daughter, Kristen Vazquez; an extra, extra special daughter-in-law, Tracey Clegg; 2 brothers, Allan and Daniel Clegg; and 2 sisters-in-law, Valerie and Sharon Clegg; grandson, Joshua Vazquez; granddaughter, Zoie Clegg; and great-grandson, Gianni Vazquez.

A Celebration of Dave's Life will take place at his home on Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm.
