Obituary of Joan R. Martin

Hamlin - Joan R. Martin passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at the age of 76. She was predeceased by her daughter, Hannah Martin-Wheeler in October, and her sister, Joyce Riley. She is survived by her husband, David Martin; her children, Chris (Katie) Martin and Laura Martin; her son-in-law, Peter Wheeler; her 7 grandchildren, Claire Wheeler, Henry Wheeler, Emma Wheeler, Nathan Martin, Angelina Martin, Riley Martin and Johnny Martin; her sisters, Jean (Bob) Bechtold and Janet (Jim) McKeegan; her nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Louise Kent. 

Joan graduated from Mercy High in 1964 and then attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Syracuse. She became a Registered Nurse and worked for Rochester General Hospital for 5 years and then for Dr. Sandy Sorrentino in Greece for 23 years, from 1988 through 2011. In her leisure, she enjoyed taking family vacations to the Finger Lakes, Toronto and Niagara on the Lake, sailing to the British Virgin Islands on a catamaran, and going to St. Martin. Her favorite trip of all was to Ireland. She also enjoyed having coffee with her sisters and spending time with her best friend, Louise Kent. She loved to listen to Irish music. She will be deeply missed.

Family and friends are invited to attend Joan's Funeral Mass on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 3747 Brick Schoolhouse Rd, Hamlin, NY 14464. Interment in Lakeside Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash Street, East Hartford, Connecticut 06108 in Joan's memory. To donate online click on the charity name.
