Obituary of Deacon Ramon C. Datz

Hamlin - Deacon Ramon C. Datz passed away on September 29, 2021 at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara; his children, Theresa (Joseph) Westbay, Charles (Catherine) Datz, Michael (Jane) Datz, and Gretchen Foehner; his grandchildren, Katherine (Matthew Kirkpatrick) Westbay, James Westbay, Megan Datz, Farrah Foehner, Cole Foehner and George Foehner; and his sister, Sr. Carol Datz SSND.  Predeceased by granddaughter, Fallon Foehner. 

Ramon was a Veteran of the US Navy.  He worked for Eastman Kodak Co., followed by IBM, where he eventually retired from his work as a purchasing agent.  He was ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church and served at SUNY Brockport, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Hamlin for many years.  He was the Chaplain for the Albion Correctional Facility and ministered at Life Solutions of Hamlin. He was a member of the St. John XXIII Council, and also a member of the Lion's Club.  In his leisure, he enjoyed photography, square dancing, building things out of wood, and doing electronic repair work.

Deacon Ray will Lie in State at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 3747 Brick Schoolhouse Rd, Hamlin, NY 14464, on Thursday, October 7, 2021, beginning with a Prayer Service at 5:00pm, followed by visitation until 7:00 pm, where his Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 10:00 am.  Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery, located in the rear northeast section of Creekside Cemetery in Churchville.
