Obituary of Joseph Swystun

Hilton - Joseph Swystun passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at the age of 73. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph & Anna Swystun; his siblings, Irene, Michael and Donald; and his brother-in-law, Daniel Murphy. He is survived by his sisters, Mary (Joe) DiCecco and Anna Murphy; several nieces and nephews; and friends who were like family, especially Robert, Tammy, James, and Jesse Ensman of Spencerport; Joseph Ruff of Rochester; and John Acito of Rochester.

Joseph immigrated to the United States with his parents and sister Mary from Germany in 1949. He was known as G.I. Joe to friends as he was enlisted in the U.S. Army and a proud Vietnam Veteran. He lived in California and Las Vegas, Nevada for many years before moving back to Rochester and finally settling down in Hilton. He made many friends at The Dakota and Foster's Restaurant, and loved his constant companion, his dog, Baby.

There will be visitation hours, following CDC guidelines for health safety, on Saturday, January 2, 2021 from 11 a.m. - 12 noon with a service to follow at 12 noon at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, Inc., 735 East Avenue in Hilton. Interment will be held following the service in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
