Condolences
Omi was a tremendous person and an even better grandmother. What I remember the most about Omi was the joy she brought when she entered the room. She would always love to sing and dance. I remember when Mom took me and Troy to visit her at Hilton East Assisted Living, and I thought it would be sad because I was younger at the time, but there was omi dancing in the common are with everyone smiling. I remember the times we spent on Christmas Eve at her house after the 11pm church service when we were little. She would always make sure to have food for us. And lastly, my favorite picture of omi. It was of omi smiling and leaning over our railing in the backyard with our old dog Pluto. It sits on our kitchen counter, and when omi got worse in health, every so often I would stop to look at that picture and it just made me smile. That’s because omi brought joy no matter what. I will miss her dearly, and cherish the memories I have of her.
Omi was a vibrant, energetic, and extremely caring person. I am blessed to have been her grandson and been on the receiving end of her never-ending love and care.
I am so incredibly thankful for the time I had with Omi growing up. We saw her almost daily, whether it was being babysat, going to her house after school, or going on vacations. I know that the best parts of the person I am today today are rooted in how Omi raised me. Omi epitomized the nurturing grandparent who lived to be a role model to her grandchildren. She did it better than anyone.
Omi did not have an easy life, but you would never be able to tell by the way she embraced every person and every thing with a big smile on her face. She always did everything in her power to make our lives better. Even if it was something small and seemingly insignificant, it had to be perfect just for us. I can assure you, she spoiled us.
We can all learn from Omi how to wholeheartedly love others and put others' needs above our own. Not only did Omi live a long life, but she lived a full life, filled with positively impacting others. She wasn't just loving and considerate of her family, but any person she came in contact with. I am blessed, however, to have been her grandson and experience it on a daily basis.
I remember how much joy it brought Omi just to see or talk to us. You could see a childlike joy on her face or hear it in her voice every time you saw or spoke to her, and we saw her all the time. Still, every time she was beaming with excitement. We saw Omi regularly, but on the days we didn't see her I would try to call. I can now really appreciate how excited she was just to hear how my day went. She lived to love us.
Omi's passing is certainly sad, but it is uplifting knowing that, even though she is gone, I do things in my everyday life that I learned from Omi, so Omi will always be a part of me, no matter what.
Rest in peace, Omi.
Love,
Tyler
Ursula is my grandmother - a grandmother that I am very grateful to have. She was supportive, friendly, and outgoing about everything. Ursula, or Omi as I called her, did not have the easiest life.. but she was a hard worker, and was content with what she had. Despite going through struggles, Omi raised an amazing family in America after moving from Germany. Even after her passing, Omi will continue to be a role model to the family she raised, and an inspiration as the family grows.
One of my favorite memories with Omi was when she babysat me after school. As I grew up in St Paul, Omi lived very close in Hilton. Seeing Omi after school was a part of the routine while my mom did errands. First thing upon my arrival was a surprise treat or a specialty sandwich. Omi always made the best sandwiches; she would prepare it perfectly with every detail requested, which meant a lot because you could sense the care she put it in. You could sense care in everything she did, she was a perfectionist in care. The rest of the afternoon consisted of board games, schoolwork, outside play, watching TV, whatever we could fit in. I won't go into detail about each one, but like the sandwiches, she worked hard just for me to have a good time, which I will always remember. At the end, we sat out front on her bench, swaying back and forth, waiting for my mom to pull in the driveway. It may be as low as 30 degrees, but we would still get our jackets and go out to wait. While we would wait, Omi and I told stories. She would tell me stories of her childhood, stories with a life lessen, simple stories that would make me laugh. When my mom did arrive, I was very happy to see mom and go home. However, I was also sad to leave Omi, even if I would see her again tomorrow.
I will always remember Omi at her best, with her hard work ethics and care. She taught me a lot and I won't forget it. She will always be with us in spirit. Love you Omi!

I am blessed to say Ursula was my grandmother. My brothers and I called her Omi.
Omi has a lasting place in my heart. She was as caring, loving and supportive as anyone in my life. Growing up she always made it a priority to attend my sporting events, have me over for game nights/sleepovers and went on trips with us. Our trip to Germany where I met more of her family and friends was one of my favorite trips and memories with Omi.
Omi worked hard in her life and made sacrifices to provide a better life for her family. I am grateful for the lessons and values she taught me that will carry through for the rest of my life.
Love you Omi! RIP
Your Grandson
