Obituary of Shirley E. Henchen
Hilton – It is with great sorrow that the family of Shirley E. Henchen shares the passing of our Mom on Sunday, August 4, 2019. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Walter R. Henchen. She is survived by her children, Karen R. Henchen, James G. Henchen and Timothy Henchen; and many lifetime friends of over 80 years including Esther Fustanio Hosfield. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Raymond & Geraldine Smith and her brother, Eugene Smith.
Shirley dedicated her life to her family and friends. She left a promising career in music and entertainment. Named after Shirley Temple, at the early age of 5 years she danced and sang in public. She worked at a number of clubs and restaurants, mainly in the Rochester area including Oddenbachs and the Barlett Club. She was later employed at the Riverside Book Bindery.
Mom loved to travel, loved the ocean, loved to laugh and loved people. All will remember her holiday parties, clambakes and picnics. Her contributions through the years to charities, troubled individuals, and her self sacrifice will keep her in our hearts forever.
Friends may call Wednesday, August 7th from 5 – 7 PM at the THOMAS E. BURGER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 735 East Avenue in Hilton. Her Graveside Service will be held Thursday, August 8th at 11:00 AM in Parma Union Cemetery.
