Obituary of Dale H. Schwan

Hilton:  Dale H. Schwan passed away on May 15, 2017.  He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his children, Pam Johnson, Patti (Paul) Cuddeback, Todd (Ann Marie) Miller, Michael (Shari) Miller & Tracey Miller; his grandchildren, Jason (Renee) Schwan, Matthew (Angela), Jessica & Kerrianne Johnson, Bradley, A.J. & Adam Cuddeback, Krista (Spencer) Davis, Lindsey, Robert, Nicolas & Andrew Miller and Julia Koneski; his sisters-in-law, Karen (Paul) Dutcher & Nancy Malik; his great-granddaughters, Ryleigh and Braelyn; and many friends.

Dale Herbert Schwan was born on May 18th, 1941 and grew up in Irondequoit NY.  He was the son of Frank and Lois Schwan.

As a young boy, Dale was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending most of his time outdoors.  He was an accomplished target shooter, winning NY state championships in skeet shooting.  Growing up, his father educated him on hunting, fishing, trapping and cleaning his game.  He would use these skills throughout his life, and eventually pass them on to his grandchildren.

As an adult, Dale started a career in foundry work.  He would follow in his father’s footsteps, starting at Gleason Works, and then moving onto Abex, and lastly Rochester Bronze and Aluminum.  His last and favorite job was performing maintenance for the Village of Hilton, for 10 years, becoming a very well-known member of the community.

Dale would retire at the age of 63, allowing him to spend more time with his loving wife Barbara, 13 grandchildren, and 2 great-granddaughters.  He cherished the ability to watch his grandchildren get off the bus, greeting them with chocolate chip cookies every day.  In the winter, Dale and Barbara would spend four months in Vero Beach, FL.  They would make lasting friendships and unforgettable memories.  Retirement would also let him pursue his passion of woodworking.  Over the years Dale would build a variety of furniture gifts for his family and many friends.

Dale’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center for their compassion and thoughtfulness.

Friends may call Thursday, May 18th from 4-7 pm at Thomas E Burger Funeral Home, 735 East Avenue in Hilton, and are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Saturday, May 20th at 10 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Hilton.  In lieu of flowers those wishing may contribute to St Paul Church Memorial Fund, 145 East Avenue, Hilton, NY 14468 or Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center, 2652 Ridgeway Avenue, Rochester, NY 14626 in Dale’s memory.
