Obituary of Frederick E. Chattin

Frederick E. Chattin of Hilton, NY passed away on June 23, 2023.

Fred was born in Walker, NY to Mildred and Orville Chattin on May 24, 1942. He went to high school at Hilton Central and graduated in 1961. In 1963 he married the "Penny" for his thoughts, Carol, and at the time of his death they had just celebrated their 60th Anniversary.

Fred spent time as a painter and was employed by Rochester Products until he was drafted into the US Army in 1968. After an honorable, full tour service, earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star during combat in Vietnam, he returned to Hilton, and to his wife and daughter. He went on to work for General Motors until his retirement. As a Life Member of the Walker Fire Department and Walker Fire Exempts, he was particularly involved with the fire police. He enjoyed hunting, the gun club, gardening, and time outside. He also enjoyed golf, regional travel, square dancing, playing cards, NASCAR, and watching the Buffalo Bills.

Fred is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughter, Carin; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale (Doris) Penny, Gary (Kathy) Penny; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Mark Hale; his niece, Christine Penny; his nephew, Duane Brayley; his sister, Nancy; his brother, Ross; and his sister-in-law, Shirley.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Parma Union Cemetery, 260 Parma Center Rd, Hilton, NY 14468.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Walker Fire Department, 1420 Walker Lake Ontario Road, Hilton, NY 14468 in Fred's memory.
