Obituary of Jim Gillette Sr.

Hilton – James G. Gillette Sr. "Jim" passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, at the age of 84. He was predeceased by his parents, Gorton and Ruth Gillette, and his beloved daughter, Alicia.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Patricia; his son, James (Becky) Gillette Jr.; his cherished grandchildren, Jesssica (Dylan), Jackie (Jesse), and Samantha (Owen); great-grandchildren, Levi, Kane, and his future great-granddaughter; his sister, Ann Lee Sokol; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was like a brother to Victoria and Tony Iati, whose friendship meant so much to him.

Jim was a dedicated salesman throughout his career, working for Con-Agra and United Agri Products, UAP. He was proud to be recognized as the #1 Salesperson on the eastern coast. An avid outdoorsman and environmental steward, Jim was the Charter Captain of The Manitou, where he shared his love of the lake and fishing.

Jim will be remembered as a gifted storyteller who brought warmth and laughter to every conversation. He found joy in deer and duck hunting, fishing, gardening, and working in his wood shop. He had a deep love for animals, especially his loyal dogs who were always by his side. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and sharing his wisdom with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many young people he mentored throughout his life.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, Inc., 735 East Avenue, Hilton.
Jim’s Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 158 East Avenue, Hilton, NY 14468.
A gathering will be following the service at West Creek Lodge, Manitou Road.
