Obituary of Leonard A. Defendorf
Greece, NY – Leonard A. "Laddie" Defendorf II passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at the age of 77, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories, hard work, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his loving wife, Donna LeRoy Defendorf; his children, Tara Defendorf and Leonard A. (Christine) Defendorf III; his treasured grandchildren, Leda, Virgil, and Alice; his brother and his two sisters; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends, who will also carry his memory forward. He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Dorothy Defendorf.
Laddie graduated from John Carroll University in Ohio followed by service to his country with the U.S. National Guard. His entrepreneurial spirit and lifelong love for cars and motorcycles shaped the beginning of his career. As the owner and operator of Ridge Motors Garage, he worked as a mechanic before transforming the business into L &D Corner Store & Deli. Later, he found fulfillment in driving a school bus for the Greece Central School District where he enjoyed the daily interactions and camaraderie. Laddie’s passion for cars and motorcycles was lifelong, a bond he shared deeply with his son. Whether working side by side on a project or riding motorcycles through the scenic roads of Rochester and the Finger Lakes, those moments were some of his happiest. His daughter’s love for horses and farm life also became a part of his own; he could often be found on his tractor, mowing fields, and dragging arenas, always ready to lend a helping hand. Boating and water-skiing adventures filled his younger years, and his love for the lake never faded. Whether taking a local road trip, riding his motorcycle, or simply enjoying the fresh air, he embraced life with an easygoing spirit, a deep appreciation for simple pleasures, and enjoying connecting with others. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and those who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
